Tulsi - Holy Basil

Ten plants for settled calm. Tulsi, Ashwagandha, Brahmi — the base Ayurvedic adaptogens.
An adaptogen does not pull the body in a single direction. Depending on what you need that day, it lifts or it soothes — and, more deeply, it restores the terrain. Tulsi (Ocimum sanctum), Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri): Ayurveda calls this path rasayana, the way of long life.
Tulsi grows in every home courtyard in India, and it is prayed to before being drunk. Ashwagandha, whose name tells of the horse's smell, gives the quiet strength of the horse that sleeps standing. Brahmi calms the mind that spins.

A few simple Ayurvedic principles:
First: take Ashwagandha in the evening, at dinner. It helps deep sleep. Tulsi in the morning, as a light infusion.
Second: hold at least 6 weeks. Adaptogens work in duration, not by pulse.
Third: alternate. Three months Ashwagandha, three months Tulsi+Brahmi. The body gets used to it; alternating keeps the meeting alive.
