Ubhubhubhu

The mysterious Ubhubhubhu Wood has a mild earthy flavor that is not particularly discernible.
For many users, the most potent dreams are gifted only a few days after the diet with the Ubulawu Medicines.
Effects in the dream world may be very profound for the next weeks or months following the diet.
Though very gentle in the waking state, the Ubulawu medicine may bring profound transformation in oneself, through new layers of introspection, self-inquiring, and internal metamorphosis, and this for the next 2 to 4 weeks following the consumption of the dream medicines.
Best to maintain awareness of that, keeping a journal for dreams, intuitions, and reflections, keeping at mind and at heart the prayers and intentions that were set during the use of the medicines.
Follow your intuition for the perfect dosage (though no more than 2g of Ubulawu is advised) and decide on the combination of Ubulawu plants you feel to connect with during this diet (1, 2, 3, or more of the 5 Ubulawu species available on our website).
Allow at least 2 months between diets with the Ubulawu Dream Teachers for proper integration, as they continue working on a subconscious level.

Decoction:
The primary method of using Ubhubhubhu is through a gentle decoction, often as part of a special dream diet for 3 to 7 consecutive days. It is best to use it with intention and prayers, creating a ritual or ceremony around its usage.
- Instructions:
- Use about 1 to 2 grams of Ubhubhubhu Wood (or about half a teaspoon).
- If mixed with other Ubulawu herbs, such as Silene capensis, Synaptolepis kirkii, Mukanya Kude, and Uqume, you may reduce to no more than 1 gram per herbs.
- Simmer gently in water for 20-30 minutes, or until the decoction feels ready (colored and fragrant).
- Drink the decoction, ideally in the morning on an empty stomach, before bed, or both.
- This process may be repeated daily for 3 to 7 days, especially during the days of a full moon or new moon, to enhance its effects.
- The same material can be reused each day and be composted only at the end of the diet or after a few days of repeated use. You may add a pinch of new dream medicine on days 3 and 5 (for those making a long diet) to refresh the mixture. You may also extend the brewing time day after day to extract furthermore the magical components of the plants.

Traditional Ubulawu Foam Preparation:
Ubhubhubhu can also be prepared traditionally to create a foam.
That way of consuming the Ubulawu Dream Teachers may offer a more profound experience, therefore requiring more internal commitment to honor its process.
You may offer your prayers at all steps of the preparation process below.
- Instructions:
- Offer a small amount (250 mg to 1 gram) of powdered Ubhubhubhu Wood to a large container of cold water. At least 3L of water is recommended, with some extra room left in the container. The Wood can be ground into powder using a mortar and pestle. If you are unable to powder the wood, it may still be effective, though it may produce less foam.
- Following your intuition, you may mix Ubhubhubhu with other of the 5 Ubulawu specimens in the preparation.
- Let the mixture sit for at least 7 hours, mixing gently now and then.
- Churn the mixture with a whisk, electric whisk, or preferably a milk foamer to produce foam.
- Consume as much of the foam as possible, as it will continue to be produced indefinitely.
- Ideally, do this on an empty stomach or without having eaten in the last 2-3 hours.
- Go to sleep, or take a nap if used in the morning, within the next hour after consuming the foam.
- Repeat this process with the same preparation for at least 3 consecutive days.

Safety and Respect:
Though the Ubulawu medicines are very gentle, with very little noticeable effect on waking consciousness, those herbs must be used with utmost respect and with prayers from one's heart. Creating a ceremonial space is very encouraged, as well as dieting before, during, and after their consumption. You may want to follow a food diet a few days before, during, and after the use of the Ubulawu. Similar to the diets for other plant teachers from the Amazonia - no sugar, no alcohol, no meat, no drugs, no sex....
Use Ubhubhubhu in a private, undisturbed environment, and express gratitude for its assistance. Clearly state your intentions for using Ubhubhubhu, as this helps set a sacred space and establish healthy boundaries for the experience. Avoid social entertainment and maintain focus on your internal process during the use of this powerful dream medicine. Keep a dream and intuitive writing journal for at least 4 weeks following the consumption of the dream medicines..

Traditional Ceremonial Use:
"In the morning, first thing before food or liquids are consumed, the person churns the ubulawu (ideally in a quiet, undisturbed space where one can burn a candle and have objects of prayer and spiritual devotion) and one can typically pray to one's ancestral relatives, angels, or whatever one believes in, to acknowledge their place and yours in the Universe we live in, as well as to the medicine itself for healing and knowing. The person then drinks enough of this liquid to feel full and then vomiting is induced with two fingers placed to the back of the throat" (Sobiecki).
"The vomiting of this compound is referred to as ukugabha (Xhosa) (Lamla, 1975). The foam from the preparation is used to wash the body, normally late in the evening (Lamla 1975). Both vomiting and washing with the foam are used 'to remove ritual impurity' (Hirst 2005). Though vomiting is reported as removing ritual impurity, the mechanism of vomiting has a physiological effect on the dreaming process" (Sobiecki).
In contemporary use, consuming the foam without going all the way to vomiting is acceptable. One may feel the call to experience washing with the foam, with deep respect for the medicine.
